2018 Fellow

Péta Phelan is a professional rehabilitation counsellor, academic and the Director of Social Emotional and Wellbeing with Yoorrook Justice Commission.

Péta’s previous roles include

  • Manager of Alumni Development with Melbourne Poche,
  • Senior Clinical Educator of Social and Emotional Wellbeing at the Victorian Aboriginal Community-Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO), and
  • Lecturer and clinical supervisor at Flinders University, working in the Disability and Community Inclusion Unit (DCIU) within the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

In 2016 Péta completed the Masters of Rehabilitation Counselling where she focused on mental health and psychological injuries (PTSD, vicarious traumatisation, and compassion fatigue). She is currently undertaking a PhD in the area of Indigenous Intersectional Social and Emotional Wellbeing.

Péta is undertaking the Board Leadership Program, delivered in partnership between AICD and Leadership Victoria. Between 2016 and 2018, she was a National Director with the Rehabilitation Counselling Association of Australasia (RCAA), where she served as their representative on the Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA), and the Allied Health Professions Australia Rural & Remote Committee (AHPARR).
