Project: Promoting Brain Health in Elders  – Exploring and developing a biomarkers framework and data governance approach

PhD opportunity

This scholarship provides the opportunity for a PhD candidate to develop a data governance framework for biomarkers in brain health research.

Biomarkers are tests using blood or blood products, scans or other physiological indicators. The framework will be used to govern and support this dynamic, emerging area of medicine and health care.

Scholarship package

Student payment: Approx. $50,000 pa x 3 years full time, adjusted for part time candidates

Research support (including travel, data collection, professional development): up to $1,200 pa

Lead: Associate Professor Dr Dina LoGiudice, Consultant Geriatrician/Clinician Researcher, the University of Melbourne and Royal Melbourne Hospital

Co-Lead: Professor Dawn Bessarab, Director, Centre for Aboriginal Medical and Dental Health (CAMDH) Senior Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Western Australia

Supervision details

  • Primary supervision is by Chief Investigator, Associate Professor Dr Dina LoGiudice – CRE Lead and A/Prof Aged Care (non-Indigenous), open to negotiation
  • The project team consists of a number of Aboriginal academic leaders who can provide co-supervision that will be discussed with the student
  • Other Aboriginal academics within UoM can also be sought as co-supervisors or advisory group members

University of Melbourne requirements for admission to higher degree research.

Place/location

The project team is primarily based in Melbourne, with Investigators also in Sydney, Perth, Broome, Kimberley, Darwin, Hobart, Cairns and Torres Strait Islands.
