Guaranteed Research Training Program (RTP) scholarship
Indigenous PhD scholars will qualify for the annual Research Training Program (RTP) scholarship for the duration of their candidature.
The annual rate for 2025 is approx. $52,000 for full time study. Pro rata rates are available for part time study, which are taxed. You can read more on the Australia Government Research Training Program.

Indigenous Graduate Research Program
Indigenous MDHS PhD scholars are automatically included in the Indigenous Graduate Research Program run by Tahlia Eastman at the Melbourne Poche Centre for Indigenous Health.
The program brings together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander PhD scholars from across the MDHS Faculty and offers culturally informed academic cohort experience through events including guest speakers, skills development, writing workshops, social events and more. It also provides opportunities to engage and visit with international Indigenous scholars.

Professional Certificate in Indigenous Research
The Professional Certificate in Indigenous Research is an interdisciplinary coursework program that aims to build research capacity within the cohort by means of providing accessible and culturally sensitive Indigenous research training and the opportunity to establish ongoing professional networks.
The course explores research and develops research skills from an Indigenous perspective is taught in a mixed mode of seminars, case studies, and group activities, with an emphasis on collaborative learning.

Named in honour of Aunty Joan Vickery and Aunty Angela Clarke, the Peeneeyt Thanampool (Strong Women) Aunty Joan Vickery and Aunty Angela Clarke MDHS Indigenous Post-doctoral Fellowship is open for applications from Indigenous MDHS PhD Graduates.
The Fellowship aims to support the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers who will actively contribute to translational health research and/or address critical health issues facing Indigenous communities. Fellows contribute to and enrich the Faculty’s diverse scholarly community and strengthen the local and global Indigenous research community.
