Brett is a Murrawarri man, who currently has a tenured position working with University of New South Wales (UNSW) Division of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Indigenous on both Wiradjuri and Bidjigal Country.

He holds the position as the inaugural Pro Vice-Chancellor Indigenous Engagement and Research (PVCIER) and Senior Scientia Lecturer. Prior to the PVCIER role, he was the inaugural Associate Dean Indigenous at UNSW Medicine and Health and a Senior Scientia Lecturer. He was also the inaugural Director of Indigenous Health Education in the faculty.

Brett currently focuses towards a sustainable, long-term academic career, fostering his passion for leadership, and research with a strong focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This focus also enables responsibility as a role model for younger generations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to see academia as a pathway in improving health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
