Skye Parsons is proud Walbunja woman from the Yuin nation on the South Coast of NSW and is the Director of Aboriginal Health at the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD).

Skye started is both a registered nurse and a registered midwife blending her frontline experiences and her cultural knowledge into the work she does in SESLHD. Skye also has completed a Masters of Indigenous health. Skye has worked as a clinical midwifery consultant as well as in the Nursing and Midwifery Office as Project officer on the Aboriginal Nursing and Midwifery Strategy. As a midwife one of her greatest achievements is the establishment of a culturally appropriate model of care for Aboriginal families in a major tertiary hospital in Sydney. A service that still exists today.

In her role as Director of Aboriginal Health, Skye leads the District’s strategic approach to improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Under her leadership and co-designed with Community, SESLHD developed Healthy Mob, Strong Community. SESLHD’s Aboriginal Health Plan 2024-26.

Skye is vocal about the importance of culturally safe care, Aboriginal workforce development, and strong partnerships with Aboriginal communities. Skye plays a key role in driving system change not only in service delivery but also in how health organisations partner with community, respect culture, and design services that truly meet Aboriginal people’s needs.
