Narelle is a proud Yuin and Kamilaroi woman, deeply committed to progressing Aboriginal health and creating lasting, meaningful change within the healthcare system. With a deep passion for improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal communities, Narelle has dedicated her career to ensuring that Aboriginal health is a priority at every level of healthcare delivery.
Currently, Narelle serves as the Team Leader at the Aboriginal Health Unit at Bairnsdale Regional Health Service, where she leads a dedicated team focused on improving the health outcomes of Aboriginal people in the region. In her role, she not only manages the day-to-day operations of her team but also works closely with hospital leadership and staff to review and refine existing systems. She is driven to create cultural spaces, initiatives, and policies that reflect Aboriginal values and ensure that healthcare is not only culturally safe but also responsive to the unique needs of Aboriginal people.
In addition to her role at Bairnsdale Regional Health Service, Narelle is in her second tenure as a Board Director at the Gippsland & East Gippsland Aboriginal Co-operative (GEGAC). Her leadership in this role allows her to contribute at a governance level, where she advocates for improved healthcare structures and supports initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of care for Aboriginal people in East Gippsland.
With her extensive knowledge of Aboriginal health, both from a community perspective and within the healthcare system, Narelle strives to dismantle barriers to access and push for policies that embrace the diverse needs of Aboriginal people. Her career reflects a commitment to systemic change, to better serve Aboriginal communities through cultural competence, community involvement, and collaboration.
