Bursaries available for MAI Hui ā Tau 2026
Indigenous PhD candidates at the University of Melbourne can apply for a bursary to attend MAI Hui ā Tau 2026 in Wellington.
The Melbourne Poche Centre for Indigenous Health has a limited number of bursaries available for Indigenous PhD candidates currently enrolled at the University of Melbourne to attend MAI Hui ā Tau 2026.
MAI Hui ā Tau is a national gathering for Māori and Indigenous postgraduate students, providing an opportunity to connect, share research and build relationships with Indigenous researchers from across Aotearoa.
About MAI Hui ā Tau 2026
This year's hui will be held at Ngā Mokopuna, Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington, from Wednesday 11 to Saturday 14 November 2026.
The hui includes:
- Keynote addresses
- Panel discussions
- Student presentations
- A poster session
- Gala Dinner
This year's theme is Sustainability.
The hui provides an opportunity to build genuine relationships with Māori and Indigenous postgraduate researchers from across Aotearoa.
What does the bursary cover?
The bursary covers:
- Registration
- Accommodation
- Return flights to Wellington
Who can apply?
Applicants must:
- Be an Indigenous PhD candidate currently enrolled at the University of Melbourne
- Hold a valid passport to travel to New Zealand
- Have approval from their supervisor to attend

- Your name, faculty and current PhD stage
- Confirmation that you hold a valid passport
- Confirmation of supervisor approval
- Whether you would like to present or bring a poster, including your topic if applicable
